James Brown, who grew up in Augusta, is a member of the Augusta Symphony Orchestra and one of Georgia's most famous musicians. Augusta - born Amy Grant, wife of singer-songwriter John Grant - is among the other notable musicians with links to Augusta. For more than a decade, the Augusta Chamber Music Association (ACMA) has been presenting its annual summer concert series featuring rising music stars from around the country. Performers included John Mayer, Fred Astaire, David Bowie, John Lennon, George Harrison and many others.

In addition, the music business has something for everyone, and many simply have to find something that really is for them. Brown, along with Ray Charles and Sam Cooke, pioneered the so-called "golden age" of soul music - the golden age of jazz, blues and soul. Her frenetic stage shows established a much imitated style, and her new direction helped inspire the later sounds of funk, disco and rap. The song continues to be found in many of the world's most popular genres, including hip-hop, rap and blues, but Brown has continued to cross musical barriers.
